Eliminating the Strongholds that binds
How to Win the War in Your Mind
Ephesians 4:22-25 (KJV) 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. 25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. To Purity and Holiness…The apostle charged the Ephesians in the name and by the authority of the Lord Jesus, that having professed the gospel, they should not be as the unconverted Gentiles, who walked in vain fancies and carnal affections. Do not men, on every side, walk in the vanity of their minds? Must not we then urge the distinction between real and nominal Christians? They were void of all saving knowledge; they sat in darkness, and loved it rather than light. They had a dislike and hatred to a life of holiness, which is not only the way of life God requires and approves, and by which we live to him, but which has some likeness to God himself in his purity, righteousness, truth, and goodness. The truth of Christ appears in its beauty and power, when it appears as in Jesus. The corrupt nature is called a man; like the human body, it is of diver’s parts, supporting and strengthening one another. Sinful desires are deceitful lusts; they promise men happiness, but render them more miserable; and bring them to destruction, if not subdued and mortified. These therefore must be put off, as an old garment, a filthy garment; they must be subdued and mortified. But it is not enough to shake off corrupt principles; we must have gracious ones. By the new man, is meant the new nature, the new creature, directed by a new principle, even regenerating grace, enabling a man to lead a new life of righteousness and holiness. This is created, or brought forth by God's almighty power. Wisdom; “You Will Never Fight a Greater battle On the Earth than the Battle of the Mind.” Your mind is a battle field. It is where you gain the victory or suffer a defeat concerning things that matter to your joy and happiness. The big question is this: How do you win the war in your mind? When Satan wanted to derail Adam and Eve, he attacked their minds with contradictions and lies. He attempted the same tricks on Jesus when he tempted him three times (Matthew 4). Why does the human mind fascinate the devil so much? This is because your mind is the gate-way to your heart (your spirit); the immaterial, spiritual and core essence of you. No wonder the bible says that, “Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life” (Proverbs 4:23) The devil knows that if he can win the battle over your mind, he can go ahead to downcast your spirit. There is never going to be a day when there is no ferocious battle going on in your mind – be it the battle over your health, or the ones over your relationships. It could be a battle concerning your spiritual life, finances, children, husband, wife, career, employment, emotional life or even concerning your values and beliefs. The purpose of the enemy is to sow doubts, fear, confusion, disbelief, weariness, depression, anxiety, hopelessness and despair into your mind, until you discard your faith. Why? Because the greatest battle of the mind is over your faith in Christ. The devil never wants you to maintain faith in Christ. That’s why he will attack anything in your life, including your health, finances and relationship, just to be able to get you doubt God and discredit His Word. But if you are to win the battle of the mind, you will have to constantly fight with the powerful weapons of God. Since the battle of the mind is never physical, it therefore must be fought with our spiritual weaponries, according to the instructions of God to us. The bible says, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ,” (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). Jesus is our perfect example, and that’s why the bible says we should look on to Him always – the author and finisher of our faith… (Hebrews 12:2). If this is so, we must study how He won the battle of the mind against Satan. In Matthew chapter 4, we found the answer – “It is written, it is written, it is written…” Those were the weapons that Jesus deployed to conquer the schemes of the devil. Jesus drew the sword of the spirit each time Satan attempted to win the battle of the mind. The Word of God is sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). It’s also an incorruptible seed (1 Peter 1:23). Therefore, concerning the challenges you are currently going through, you will have to draw the sword of the Spirit and reach for the shield of faith, with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
